Sunny Beaches and Hair Care
Posted on February 10th, 2009 No commentsFadhrick asked:
For all people, it is very enjoyable to spend summer holidays at beaches, but not for hair. Sunrays and salted water make problem for hair. Every one wants to have the best hairstyle and look after their hair.
A large number of persons have observed that the hair do not shine intensely during the period of summer. As, sun makes dry high coat of hair and concerns albuminous stability. Salted water also has dreadful contact on hair, particularly in the summer holidays while one stays under sun radiations and swims on a regular basis. These two components make hair dull and rough, particularly ends of hair. Hair mostly discontinue shining due to rough surface, they movable elasticity and become very simple to split. Therefore, this is not just a condition of beautiful looking hair, this is a severe condition of hair well-being, and one requires taking care of it.
The main thing an individual require to perform to have strong hair is to keep them from direct Ultraviolet rays- put on headgear. At present, there is a wide range of headgear such as caps, hats, bandanas and panamas. But one should keep in mind that hair should be capable to take breaths, so the great option is a straw hat.
The subsequent thing is the shield from salt. Every time after swimming one should rinse hair very cautiously to remove salt from head skin and hair. A numbers of cosmetics brands have specific items for the time of summer that can look out of hair requirements. These hair care items are particularly associated for those persons who use more time on beaches. When it is preferable to employ two in one formula items in vacation, it is suggested to apply separate conditioner and hair shampoo for care of head skin and hair.
As well as, one should look out of the water-salt equilibrium of complete body. Generally, 1.5 litres or 2 litres every day of healthy liquids will assist one with beauty and health. But always remember, that not every liquid is beneficial and healthy, just natural hair products are suggested such as ice green tea or hot green tea with fresh lemon juice and cold water.
The assist of natural hair masks with further protein can improve concerned albuminous balance. The hair masks should be utilized in curing order - use mask of head skin and hair, cover head with cellophane, after that cover it with dry and soft towel, allow the hair mask stay for 20-25 minutes. At last, rinse the hair properly. One should keep away from chemical actions on hair in the period of summer, as they have their own dreadful contact on hair. -

An Overview of Full Lace Wigs
Posted on February 9th, 2009 No commentsDaniel Millions asked:
Regular wigs have been around for hundreds of years, but in today’s modern society, people usually do not like to be noticed as wearing a wig. There are a variety of hair growing products and operations, but for some people, that option is not practical. An alternative to the traditional style of wig is the full lace wig, which appears much more realistic than its older counterpart.
Never heard of a full lace wig? The concept is relatively simple, and you have probably seen a wig of this nature at some point. Full lace wigs are made with a cap, and a lace is sewn on to the cap. On that lace, individual hairs are sewn, to make the wig look as natural as possible. A new hairline is made around your head, and the wig fits easily on. There is no limit to what you can do with the wig, including putting it in any arrangement that you desire.
The greatest part of a full lace wig is that it looks so real. Hair actually appears to be growing straight out of the scalp. Regular wigs can be quickly identified, especially if one just takes a moment to analyze it. Full lace wigs are nearly unidentifiable, so most people will not be able to tell you are wearing a wig at all. Also, the hair used is human hair, not any synthetic substitutes which are of much lower quality.
One can attach a wig to their head using two methods. They can either utilize double sided tape, or a liquid adhesive. Each option is equally applicable and neither one is better than the other. Whatever option is chosen, it should be made sure of that the product is high quality and durable. Durability is especially important for one who engages in a variety of intensive activities. If your bonding is not strong enough, it is possible that the wig will fall right off. In addition, tape and/or adhesive makes the hair look even more natural, by further accentuating the look of hair growing out of the head.
Density is the thickness of hair, and when deciding on a full lace wig, one of the criteria is how dense you want the hair to be. Most natural hair is medium dense, but one can usually pull off having light or heavy dense hair, as some people look better with less dense/more dense hair. It really is a matter of personal preference. There is an average density for human hair, and that average is what defines light, medium, and heavy density. For example, light is considered sixty percent of normal density, medium is one hundred percent, and heavy is one hundred and fifty percent. Due to the fact that full lace wigs are inherently realistic looking, the dense factor is not that critical in expressing realism.
Since individual hairs are hand sewed on to full lace wigs, and the hair is real, it is understandable that the price of the wigs would be high. People who really care about their hair should make the investment in to full lace wigs, but those who are not too mindful of it should not have a problem with a regular wig. Full lace wigs run between three hundred and five hundred dollars, although if a wig is extremely high quality and made with in-demand hair, the price can reach into the thousands. -

How to Wash a Full Lace Wig
It is extremely important to familiarize yourself with the texture of your full lace wig. Use products that work well with your unit’s texture! Products you use on your own hair type may not work well on your full lace wig.
Step 1
Before washing your full lace wig, brush gently, or use a detangling comb from the tips of the wig to the base/roots. Never begin combing at the top or middle, this will damage and tangle the unit.
Step 2
Place your full lace wig on a Styrofoam wig head and use T Pins to secure.
Step 3
In a spray bottle, mix a capful of shampoo and fill the remaining with cool water. It is important to choose a shampoo that is suitable for your full lace wig’s texture. Products that may work well are Silicon Mix, Nearly Natural, Ionix, Dove Moisture Intense, Nexxus, Aveda, Paul Mitchell etc
Step 4
Place your full lace wig on the Styrofoam head under a gentle stream of cool water. Pour or spray the shampoo mixture evenly over the wig and use a wide tooth rounded end comb to distribute the shampoo. Remember to always comb starting at the ends of the hair to the roots.

Cause of Trichotillomania
Posted on February 7th, 2009 No commentsMichel Waugh asked:
The term “trichotillomania” comes from the Greek words “thrix,” meaning “hair” and “tillein” meaning “to pull” and “mania,” the Greek word for “madness” or “frenzy”. As the name suggests trichotillomania is a psychiatric condition in which an individual has an uncontrollable urge to pull out his or her own body hair. For people suffering from trichotillomania, hair pulling is more than a habit. It is rather a compulsive behavior, which the person finds very hard to stop. The cause of tricholomania is supposed to be the imbalance of chemicals in the human brain.
People with trichotillomania pull their hair out of the root from places like the scalp, eyebrows, eyelashes, or even the pubic area. Some people even pull handfuls of hair, which can leave bald patches on the scalp or eyebrows. Other people pull out their hair one strand at a time. Some inspect the strands after pulling them out or play with the hair after it’s been pulled. About half of people with this condition also have the habit of putting the plucked hair in mouth.
Trichotillomania has been mentioned as a disorder in very early historical records. But clinically the condition trichotillomania was first described in 1889 by the French physician Francois Hallopeau. The condition is rare - statistics show it affects only 1% to 3% of the population, although new research suggests that the rate of hair pulling may be around 10% or higher.
Trichotillomania affects about twice as many girls as boys. Most people who have trichotillomania develop the condition during adolescence. However, it can start when a person is as young as 1 year old.
Trichotillomania is often the cause for embarrassment, frustration, shame, or depression for those people affected with the disorder. Those people also suffer from low self-esteem. They usually try to hide their behavior from others. Because of this fact, social alienation is common in trichotillomania patients. Moreover, the patients also try to cover patches of balding scalp by wearing wigs, hats, scarves or hair clips, or by applying make-up or even by tattooing..
Cause of tricholomania
Doctors don’t know much about the cause of trichotillomania. It is believed that genetics plays a major role. The compulsive behavior like trichotillomania can sometimes run in families. Some psychiatrists think it might be related to OCD since OCD and trichotillomania are both anxiety disorders. This is one reason why the impulses that lead to hair pulling can be stronger when a person is stressed out or worried.
Experts think that the actual cause of tricholomania is the imbalance of chemicals in the brain. These chemicals, called neurotransmitters are part of the brain’s communication center. When something interferes with how neurotransmitters work it can cause problems like compulsive behaviors.
Since trichotillomania is a medical condition, it’s not something most people can just stop doing when they feel like it. People with trichotillomania usually need help from medical experts before they can stop. With the right help, though, most people overcome their hair-pulling urges. This help may involve therapy, medication, or a combination of both.
There are therapies in which special behavior techniques are used to help people recognize the urge to pull hair before the urge becomes too strong to resist. The patient learns ways to resist the urge so that the urge becomes weaker and then goes away.
Many people find it helpful to keep their hands busy with a different activity (like squeezing a stress ball or drawing) during times when the urge of pulling hair is strong. Even activities like knitting while watching TV seems to help. -

Chinese Silk Through 5,000 Years
Posted on February 6th, 2009 No commentsHimfr Ivy asked:
China has a history of silk more than 5000 years, since she first invented the sericulture and silk production. It is silk that built a bridge between China and Europe, then the Silk Road became a symbol of the cultural and economic exchange between the East and the West. So silk is a part of the Chinese civilization, which made a great contribution to the world.
What kind of oriental silk mysteries will be brought to this beautiful country? It is learned that there will be more than 140 pieces /sets of silk textile exhibits collected by ChinaSilkMuseum, of which 80, carefully selected, extremely precious and rare, are relics of ancient China which epitomizes the historical development of ancient silk culture. Besides, woven fabrics and modern brocade add up to 60 pieces / sets, among which, some master embroidered pieces are supplied by the Culture Ministry of the People’s Republic of China.
The exhibition is made up of three parts.
Part I narrates how China and Europe are connected through the route of Silk Road, that is, the silk relics textiles excavated along the Silk Road by land, sea and desert. Chinese silk chronology charts the development of silk in the past 5,000 years with emphasis on Chinese silk history and culture. A group of model weaving looms, ranging from the primitive back-strapped loom, the treadle plain-weave loom, the reclining loom and the mechanical patterning loom act out not only the weaving technology but also how the ancient Chinese made exquisite silk. The precious exhibits, the 5,000-year old components of a primitive back-strapped loom and the silk yarn unearthed in Yuyao county, Zhejiang Province, enable people to understand that the ancestors of the Chinese people began to grow mulberry trees, raise silkworms and weave silk fabrics even then, hence, the long civilization history of China.
Part II exhibits the silk textile relics from the early Qin period (306 BC) to the 40s of last century. You can see a Han dynasty brocade (206 BC) with the motif of running animals amidst the misty mountains, an indication of people’s longing for a fairyland. Still another piece called “Persian Samite” which dates back to the Northern dynasties (386-581AD) with its motifs of elephant, camel, winged horse, lion, and hunter in half a dozen colors, clearly indicates the influence of the western regions. Rare animals and gods from the Greek mythology form the major motifs of silk textiles from the 5th-9th centuries. A well preserved silk tabby coat tie-dyed by hand helps us to understand and study the silk production techniques as well as the fashion style in that dynasty. The brocade fabrics, elegant and poised with pearl roundel and floral spray motifs produced in the Tang dynasty not only reflect the prosperity of that dynasty but also the high level of technology in the silk production. The delicate and refined style of the Song dynasty is shown in a suit of gauze coat, trousers and a pair of shoes on display. They are thin, light and graceful. The trousers with its short yet loose legs recapture the fashion style of that time. The silk textiles and clothes after the 19th century on this show are all bright in color, diversified in style and exquisite in embroidery. Beautiful and gorgeous are these magnificent yellow fabrics for the emperor’s robe with dragon motifs, the embroidered coats with red flowers, green embroidered woman’s-wear and slim-figured Qipao of superb handwork.
Part III deals with the rapid advance of computerized digital technology and resultant digital weaving techniques. Brocade embroidery is the most resplendent chapter of the silk history. With the help of color separation and structure design, electronic jacquard and the new- type rapier, digital colorful silk paintings are more vivid in motif and richer in color expression. On the basis of the traditional printing and dyeing technology, printed silk paintings, and silk paintings from wax-resist dyeing and digital ink-jet improved on by contemporary high tech, are enjoying more appreciation among people. Hand painting and embroidery know-how are also nearing perfection with quite a number of innovative embroidery stitches. Dozens of scenic paintings and embroidery art needlework will surely bring you an eye treat.
The Chinese delegation also brings with them a team of fashion show. At the opening ceremony six beautiful girls from China will put on a performance of what the Chinese wear from the Han Dynasty(206BC-220AD)down to the present, a manifestation of the good time of silk in the past 5,000years. The show will last for 3 days. At the same time, the Chinese textile experts will have dialogue with the audience and receive interview by the media ( in English).
In the past 5,000 yeas silk has become an integral part of Chinese civilization and a great contribution to the world civilization as well. Living in silk is one of the pursuits by the people for a better life. It is believed that this exhibition will promote the cultural exchange between the two countries, strengthen their friendship and facilitate the Czech to understand the long history and culture of China.
“A silkworm spins all its silk till its death and a candle won’t stop its tears until it is fully burnt.” This Tang poem accurately describes the property of the silkworm. Despite technological development, a silkworm can only produce a certain amount of silk—1000 meters (3280feet) in its lifespan of 28 days. The rarity of the raw material is the deciding factor of both the value and the mystery of silk.
Legend has it that in ancient times, Lei Zu, the wife of Huang Di , taught people how to raise silkworms and how to extract the silk.
The Warring States Period, the beginning of feudalist society in Chinese history, witnessed a prosperous time. The development of productivity popularized silk and it was no longer a luxury just for aristocrats. The pattern, weaving, embroidery and dyeing skills were all improved as they were influenced by the free ideology of the time, while the silk designs had sense of a free and bold air about them.
The silk products excavated from Mawangdui Han Tomb are proof of the advanced skill and artistry of silk at this time.
Silk production peaked during the Han Dynasty when the manufactured goods were transported as far away as Rome from Chang’an (today’s Xian). The overland trade route was to become famously known as the Silk Road. However, there was also a Marine Silk Road extending from Xuwen, Guangdong or Hepu, Guangxi to Vietnam. An outward bound voyage lasting five months would arrive in Vietnam; it would take another four months to reach Thailand; while a further twenty days would carry the merchants on to Burma. Two months later they would arrive in India and Sri Lanka, from where the silk would be eventually transported to Rome via the Mediterranean. After such a long journey, the price of silk was equivalent to that of gold. Legendary as it seems, tender silk connected China to the rest of the world.
During subsequent dynasties, professional designers created novel patterns and improved the machines.
The Marine Silk Road took supremacy over the land Silk Road following the Song Dynasty extending the trade to Southeast Asia which became fully developed in the Yuan Dynasty. Besides Chinese exports, foreign businessmen also came to China to buy silk and china wares.
During the Ming and Qing Dynasties silk was transported to Europe and America from Manila and this meant that China dominated the world’s silk market until 1908.
Chinese characters including the component “silk” have the intonation of silk or its implication of fine and deep. The richness of color, texture, strength and beauty of silk make it the means to imply something is fine and impeccable. A woman’s raven hair is referred to as ‘black silk’ ; tender feelings are ‘feelings of silk’ and the Chinese word for a lingering and emotive feeling contains the component of “silk”, and even a flavor can be silky and smooth. -

What Causes Hair Loss ? What Can I Do?
Posted on February 4th, 2009 No commentsGary Heron asked:
It is normal to lose between 50-100 hairs a day, this is part of the hair renewal process. However most people suffer from excessive hair loss at one time in their life. There are many reasons for this including medication, radiation, chemotherapy, exposure to chemicals, hormonal and nutritional factors, thyroid disease, generalized or local skin disease, and stress.
Many of these causes are temporary and a few are permanent. These are some of the more common reason for hair loss.
HORMONAL BEHAVIOUR
Since hormones both stimulate hair growth and cause hair loss, hormonal changes by far have the biggest impact on hair loss. These can affect both men and women in the following ways:
This is the most common cause of thinning and affects both men and women. Men generally have hair loss concentrated in a specific pattern from the front through to the crown. Women tend to have thinning throughout their head without being in any specific pattern. This type of hair loss is caused by the androgen DHT, or Dihydrotestosterone. Since everyone has DHT that is produced by their bodies and only some people suffer from hair loss there has to be another factor involved. This other factor is having follicles that have a greater number of Androgen receptors for the DHT to attach to. This is the component that is inherited through the genes. To date the most effective preventative treatments are anti androgens, drugs that prevent the creation of DHT. In the future gene therapy will one day be able to alter the genes to prevent the follicles from being affected by DHT.
Childbirth
After pregnancy many women experience a loss of hair, this is caused many hair simultaneously entering the resting (telogen) phase. Within two to three months after giving birth, some women will notice large amounts of hair coming out in their brushes and combs. This can last one to six months, but resolves completely in most cases. This condition is caused by the hormonal changes that take place after a woman’s body recovers from her pregnancy.
Birth control pills
Women who have a genetic predisposition to suffer from Androgenic Alopecia can have it occur at a much younger age by taking birth control pills. The hormonal changes that occur trigger the onset of the Androgenic Alopecia. If a woman has a history of female pattern loss in her family she should advise her doctor before going on the pill. After the discontinuation of the pill the woman may notice that her hair begins shedding two or three months later. This may continue for six months when it usually stops. In some cases the process cannot be reversed and the woman may not regrow some of the hair that was lost.
DISEASE OR ILLNESS INFLUENCES
Since the follicle is a very sensitive it does respond to imbalances in the body. Most hair loss causes by disease or illness is temporary and resolves itself after the body has returned to a healthy condition.
High fever, severe infection, severe flu
Sometimes one to three months after a high fever, severe infection or flu, a person may experience hair loss, this is usually temporary and corrects itself.
Thyroid disease.
Both an overactive thyroid and an underactive thyroid can cause hair loss. Thyroid disease can be diagnosed by your physician with laboratory tests. Hair loss associated with thyroid disease can be reversed with proper treatment.
Deficient diet
Some people who go on low protein diets, or have severely abnormal eating habits, may develop protein malnutrition. To help save protein the body shifts growing hair into the resting phase. If this happens massive amounts of hair shedding can occur two to three months later. A sign of this is if the hair can be pulled out by the roots fairly easily. This condition can be reversed and prevented by eating the proper amount of protein. Its very important when dieting to maintain an adequate protein intake.
Medications
Some prescription drugs may cause temporary hair shedding in a small percentage of people. Examples of such drugs include some of the medicines used for the following: gout, arthritis, depression, heart problems, high blood pressure, or blood thinner. High doses of vitamin A may also cause hair shedding.
Cancer treatments.
Chemotherapy and radiation treatment will cause hair loss because it stops hair cells from dividing. Hairs become thin and break off as they exit the scalp. This occurs one to three weeks after the treatment. Patients can lose up to 90 percent of their scalp hair. The hair will regrow after treatment ends and patients may want to get wigs before treatment. There are some drugs in development to help prevent this hair loss from occurring.
Low serum iron
Iron deficiency occasionally produces hair loss. Some people don’t have enough iron in their diets or may not fully absorb iron in their diets. Women who have heavy menstrual periods may develop iron deficiency. Low iron can be detected by laboratory tests and can be corrected by taking iron pills.
Major surgery/chronic illness
Anyone who has a major operation - a tremendous shock to the system - may notice increased hair shedding within one to three months afterwards. The condition reverses itself within a few months but people who have a severe chronic illness may shed hair indefinitely. A relatively unknown fact is that hair transplantation surgery can actually cause additional hair loss or “shock fallout”. Hairs lost from shock fallout usually don’t regrow.
Alopecia Areata
This type of hair loss is believed to be caused by the immune system reacting to hair follicles as if they were antibodies and shutting them down. The hair loss is usually limited to a coin sized area and all the hair in the area is lost leaving a totally smooth round patch. In a more severe rarer condition called Alopecia Totalis, all hair on the entire body is lost, including the eyelashes. Treatments include topical medications, a special kind of light treatment, or in some cases drugs.
Fungus Infection (Ringworm) of the scalp
Caused by a fungus infection, ringworm (which has nothing to do with worms) begins with small patches of scaling that can spread and result in broken hair, redness, swelling, and even oozing. This contagious disease is most common in children and oral medication will cure it.
Stress
Stress can cause hair loss is some people. Usually it occurs 3 months after the stressful event has occured and it may take 3 months after the stress period has ended for the hair growth to resume. In most cases it is temporary if the person is not predisposed to genetic or Androgenic Alopecia, if they are stress may trigger the onset of genetic hair loss or may worsen existing Androgenic hair loss.
MECHANICAL DAMAGE CAUSES HAIR LOSS
Damage to the hair can be self inflicted either by intentional or unintentional means. Some people going through stress continuously pull at their hair until it comes out. Styling hair by bleaching, braiding and straightening can also cause damage and results in hair being lost.
Trichotillomania or Hair Pulling
Some children and less often adults play with their hair by pulling on it or twisting it. This can be part of a behavioral problem or a bad habit that is often done unconsciously. If the behavior is not stopped permanent hair loss can result from the constant stress on the hair. Its best to seek the help of a mental health professional to solve this problem.
Hair Styling Treatments
Many people change the appearance of their hair by using chemical treatments like dyes, tints, bleaches, straighteners, relaxers and permanent waves. If correctly done and done using reputable products, its rare to have any damage. However, hair can become weak and break if any of these chemicals are used too often. Hair can also break if the solution is left on too long, if two procedures are done on the same day, or if bleach is applied to previously bleached hair. Some chemical relaxers do contain powerful chemicals and there have been instances of people get chemical burns from these products resulting in permanent hair loss. Only go to qualified hair stylists and if doing it yourself make sure you only use reputable products and follow the product directions.
Hair Braids/Weaves
Many black women and some black men braid their hair or wear hair weaves. Under normal conditions these cause no problems. However if the weave is attached too tight or the braids are wrapped too tight, they put a constant strain on the hair follicle. If this is done for an extended period of time permanent hair loss can result. This is known as Traction Alopecia and is fairly common among people who braid or weave their hair. Make sure the person applying the braids or weave is qualified to do so and don’t wear braids or weaves continuously for extended periods of time.
